How to find worthy office cleaning companies

A simple online search will return many, many office cleaning companies, and it’s probably fair to say that these days the market is over saturated with lower quality cleaning agencies that can’t offer the guarantees that more established ones can. Of course not only do you want the job done to a high standard but you also require an employee who is trustworthy and exercises respect.

As with any service or profession, office cleaning companies should be all about good customer service – this should encompass flexibility, training, understanding of your needs and respect. Your office cleaners will need to be flexible as there will be times when they will need to be in the office at 6am and other times when you may need them at 7pm on a Friday night.

In this day and age health and safety is paramount, both your own and your employees’. It’s acceptable to ask for the cleaning company you have chosen’s health and safety policy. An office cleaning health and safety contract should cover all the practical issues surrounding office cleaning (electrics, stairs, fire etc) and how their staff are trained where it is necessary.

Hiring new staff is always a risk and trusting your new office cleaners to do the job to an acceptable standard is an understandable concern. Perhaps ask your cleaners for their quality control plan and how they are planning to meet your requirements. The meeting which takes place prior to the signing of the contract should be as detailed as possible to ensure that the work is carried out to your requirements.

Offices have a civic duty to look after the environment and cleaning agencies should also be environmentally aware of what they are doing. By the nature of the work taken place within an office there is bound to be a lot paper, if your office is exercising a recycling plan you need to make sure that your cleaners are aware of how to dispose of the specific bins in the correct manner. Some office cleaning companies even have an Environmental Concern Policy of their own which may even include eco-friendly cleaning products.

Another great way to separate the wheat from the chaff is to look for accreditations, testimonials and certificates. A decent cleaning company, even if they are brand new, will be accredited by a higher authority – whether that is a local business union or recognition from The British Institute of Cleaning Science. If neither of these are present you are simply looking for some proof that they are reliable, Google or the Yellow Pages online provide the ability to post reviews and many cleaning agencies’ websites have a whole testimonials page for you to browse.
